“I dream of painting
and then I paint my dream.”

Classical Art School In The American Countryside

In the rolling hills of rural Maryland, founders Ekaterina Levental and Elena Vialova offer one-of-a-kind access to world-class European artistry. True Bohemians has an educational experience for every artist—from inspired beginner to working professional.

The international community has long held the Classical Academic tradition in the highest regard for its unique combination of precision and observational sensitivity. The need for international travel and language knowledge, however, have prevented many from studying it—and kept it out of most contemporary art schools. True Bohemians removes these traditional barriers, however, making this famous methodology accessible for the first time to English speakers in the US.

And the True Bohemians’ approach is fully customized. Educators design courses for all—from the experienced artist interested in learning a new perspective, to the total beginner seeking an exemplary foundation for their first work. Artists can opt for group lessons, or learn one-on-one.

Our Founders

Artistic Director Katya Levental—a professional artist, teacher, and honours graduate of the renowned Surikov Institute – leads classes in painting, drawing and composition. Katya received a gold medal from the Academy of Artists for her thesis presentation, and her career has only blossomed from there. Prestigious galleries on both sides of the ocean feature her work, and enthusiastic reviews appear in American and European media. Katya’s far-ranging repertoire includes everything from still-lifes hanging in American and European museums, to monumental decorative paintings gracing the lobbies of Wall Street, to frescoes and murals in private homes in New York, Washington, Palm Beach, Moscow, Paris and other world capitals. A talented theatrical art designer as well as a painter, Katya’s diversity of experience thoroughly informs her pedagogy and inspires her students.

School Administrator Elena Vialova, a nature enthusiast and art lover, has combined her two passions in the creation of True Bohemians. She has crafted a truly charming and inspirational atmosphere at the school, giving students a one-of-a-kind educational experience.

What Our Students Have to Say ❤️

  • “The whole experience was lovely. It was relaxed and fun, but I really felt like I learned a lot. Looking forward to more classes in the future!”

    -Jess, Baltimore
  • “I’ve been to several paint and drink nights form different promotions around the DMV, but this was leaps and bounds above the rest. It was a relaxing, personalized experience and for about the same price as any other you’d go to in a bar. 11/10, would make beautiful art here again.”

    -Laura, Baltimore
  • “Katya is incredibly warm and inviting, she really encourages you to be brave with your art. I hadn’t touched a paint brush in 15 years and immediately felt comfortable! And the homemade appetizers were delicious!”

    -Valerie, Baltimore
